Turmeric has recently become the super trendy health and beauty nutritional supplement, but do you know why? Used in India for thousands of years, turmeric's yellow 'curcurmin' compounds have massive anti-inflammatory effects and also make turmeric a huge antioxidant. Also really interestingly it is said if you take black pepper at the same time, it boosts the absorption of curcumin by a whopping 2000%!
Another interesting fact is that turmeric will help foods containing beta- carotene to retain the nutrients whilst cooking, beta-carotene is found in yellow and orange fruit and vegetables and provides anti-oxidants and vitamin A.
So I'd say cooking a carrot, pumpkin, turmeric and black pepper soup could be one good way of maximising the benefits!
Not forgetting that turmeric has been a beauty spice for many years in Aruvedic beauty products, such as mixing it with yogurt and honey for a face mask for its anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties- although I have heard rumours of turmeric temporarily staining the skin, so although the be benefits are great, use with caution if you don't want a Simpson makeover 😂
